Gaza Charity Dinner

Muslim Welfare House youth organised a charity dinner to support the educational process in Gaza. The aim of this charity dinner was to raise awareness to further educate the masses on Gaza’s current situation and to raise funds for the desperate people of Gaza.

The organisers of the event, The Muslim Welfare House Youth (MWHY), of whom are predominantly London youths conjured the suggestion of the Gaza charity dinner as a way of both helping the people of Gaza, and in particular the youth of Gaza, in short term via providing aid relief and also in the long run by providing education for the people of Gaza.

It is the opinion and furthermore the belief of the MWHY that the real enemy to Palestine and its freedom isn’t the guns and bullets that reign riot night and day but rather the ignorance which is widespread throughout not only Gaza but the entire world, and this was the basis of the youth speeches described by Ahmed Ibrahim.

The dinner included many speakers of whom which and American by the name of Auder Bamse who is a lawyer by trade was invited to share her views regarding the legality of the conflict and also to discuss the difficulties she faced in getting to Palestine via sea route which is very difficult to achieve. Another of the invited guests was a Kings College University student by the name of Talha Abdel al razik, in which he was invited to discuss his experiences in dealing with and helping students from Gaza, secure an institution of study here in London. Furthermore the founder of viva Palestine, the Respect MP Mr George Galloway, was present in which he discussed ways in which Palestine further educate its people and in particular its youth in order for a more peaceful middle east. In which has with the collective help of all the speakers the MWHY were able to raise money via donations and an auctions for the people of Gaza. The deputy chairman of the Islamic university in Gaza, Dr Rafat Rostom made a live international call which was broadcasted live at the charity dinner explaining to the congregation the importance of helping the education of Gaza’s people. He directly addressed approximately 9000 students in Gaza who had stopped studying in order to hear this speech. As a result of the siege on Gaza, education allowances are not available for more than 70% of Palestinians who are currently unemployed. Figures suggest and in fact prove that the conflict has caused a huge amount of damage to the education system of Gaza and is not only affecting students but also the ability of teachers to teach, as maintenance fees are exacerbated and the running of the universities becomes nearly an impossible task. For a Palestinian student to study at university, they will require around £1000 per year. The aim of the charity dinner was to attempt to convince each guest and to put their heart at ease and donate charity to the organisation so that it could be distributed accordingly. The charity would then be taking the money to Gaza Education Aid for Palestinians (EAP), of whom the director Mr Muhammed Jameel also made a speech and further explained the aim of the fundraising in sponsoring a student to get back to university. The target was to raise approximately £50 000, in which was almost achieved as the sum attained was approximately a staggering £40 000 of collections. After dinner was served, a thank you speech was given by Miss Amira Galal which was then ultimately followed dua by Khaled Gamal Abel Nasser who both are members of the Muslim welfare house youth. This dinner was done as part of the youth program in which the members helped proactively, benefiting they’re communities here in London and also in Gaza too.
