MWH History

1973: Established as a student organization, to serve the needs of oversea students in Britain. Students coming from Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, benefiting from services such as accommodation, library resources and social activities1975: Muslim Welfare House Trust becomes a registered charity. Students donate a building at 86 Stapleton Hall (Haringey) for the sole benefit of the Trust’s activities. MWH expands by offering religious activities which includes a monthly lecture by prominent scholars and speakers on both academic and current affairs topics.1976: MWH starts to offer scholarships to non-Arabic speakers to study Arabic and Islamic Studies in Saudi Arabia. Also grants and financial assistance extended to needy Muslim students pursuing their studies in UK Universities and Colleges.

1977: MHW moves to its new premesis at 233 Seven Sisters Road in Finsbury Park to become one of first community organisations in Europe to publish books about Islam and Muslims in English through its subsidiary Muslim Information Services. A reference and reading library is set up in London containing more than 5000 books and pamphlets. A mobile exhibition eqquipted with a wide range of audio-visual material used for presentings throughout the UK.2000: MWH kicks off with its new Millennium strategy, which highlights the need for partnership with both public and private enterprises as well as relevant governement institutions.2003: The boushra Marriage support programme is launched. With a group of 25 professional volunteers, MWH in conjunction with Islamic Relief starts the National Public Libraries Project which aims to provide 3400 UK libraries with a pack of books and audio-visial materials on Islam and Muslims in the UK.2004: MWH Executive Director receives a National award for Excellence in Good Citizenship by Muslim News.

In August, the first 400 public libraries receive their packs.2005: MWH celebrates its 30th anniversary
